Dear Friends,
After three days of racing at Hyeres, we are now in 29th overall out of 60 boats, but we remain the top American team. After the first day of racing, we had told you that some teams had some shocker races – well, we’ve racked up two of our own unfortunately. The conditions have continued to be light and unpredictable, very difficult racing. Monday, April 23rd, we finished 51st in the only race sailed. Yesterday, Tuesday, April 24th, we finished 57th across the line, but jumped to 51st after DSQ’s and OCS’s. Two of those DSQ’s were thanks to Erin who went into the protest room twice to throw out teams that had egregiously fouled us at two consecutive leeward marks. Not a fun race. In the last race of the day yesterday, we sailed a very solid race, finishing 11th. That’s more like it!
We have at least two more days of racing left, and we are still looking forward to the medal race on Friday. After 9 races in the regatta we get two throw-outs, so we are looking to maximize our drops and sail some more great races – the regatta is far from over.
We have our first fan here on the water! Pat Chew, a member of Stonington Harbor Yacht Club, has been on the water cheering us on (and taking some great photos)!
We are starting earlier today, so I will spare you most of the details, but please stay tuned! For complete scores, please visit the regatta website:
